Sustainability at Mantra Heritage

Here at Mantra Heritage, we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.

We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities by calling room service or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Recycling

At Mantra Heritage, all hotel waste is separated into co-mingle, cardboard, food waste and general waste, minimising our impact on landfill.  In addition, we have taken a number of steps to further reduce water and embrace a circular system.

  • To reduce our water usage, daily servicing is not provided. A complimentary service is offered to guests who stay 8 nights or more, or guests can request a service for a fee.
  • Our most requested amenities such as toothbrushes and razors are made from bamboo rather than single use plastics
  • Provide our loyalty guests with canned drinks such as Dilmah Iced Tea, which can be recycled after consumption.

 Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible.

  • Provide support to local cycling event Gran Fondo, which is held annually in Port Douglas
  • Donate accommodation vouchers to local charities such as Pink in the Tropics
  • Support local sporting teams such Port Douglas Junior Crocs, donating goods to team raffles to help generate funds for the team

Acknowledgement of Country

Mantra Heritage pay our respects to the traditional owners of the Port Douglas region, the Kuku Yalanji and Yirraganydji people, and extend that respect to their Elders past and present.

Accessibility

At Mantra Heritage, we strive to accommodate the diverse needs of all our guests, including those with mobility challenges. While we don't currently have dedicated accessible rooms, our open-plan apartments are designed with spacious layouts to provide ease of movement and comfort for all guests. The open-plan design ensures that there are no barriers or tight spaces that could impede movement within the living areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms which have walk in showers.

We understand that external access is crucial for guests requiring mobility assistance, so we have elevators around the property to make access to rooms and common grounds as smooth as possible.

Additionally, we are welcoming of service animals and our friendly staff are available to assist further with any specific needs to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
